A different San Juan
By June 23, Barcelona will have foreseeably reached the new normal to be able to celebrate San Juan 2020. Still, Civil Protection has announced that the celebrations should be, at most, between 15 and 20 people, with a consumption of pyrotechnics more modest than usual.
As it is a festival that remains in its popular origins, in each district different associations are responsible for celebrating their bonfire. On the part of the City Council, in the words of the mayor, Ada Colau, has made it clear that you cannot do “a San Juan as we have done other years”.
The obvious reason is that many gatherings will not be allowed, despite being a party that is usually massive. According to Colau, it will be necessary to “celebrate the party respecting the safety distance and avoiding crowds”. This year, to have a safe San Juan we must celebrate a different San Juan.
Celebrate with ICONO
In any case, it will be each citizen in his individual celebration and in small groups who will provide the security that the celebration of San Juan needs in such a delicate year. As the experts remember, the end of the alarm state is not the end of the danger and, of course, we all want to have the happiest time possible.
At ICONO, we want to propose a plan for these days of celebration: our new route through the ‘Centennial Shops’, a morning of shopping in Barcelona 100 years ago, where you can buy traditional and artisan products. Among the stops on this route is the centennial pastry shop La Colmena, where you can taste its already famous version of Sant Joan coca. What are you waiting for? Meet again with yours and your city on this and other routes that will be active again from July!
