Discover the 16th century locations described in this novel in a guided visit

A unique chance to relive the stories of the characters and one of the most emblematic monuments in Barcelona, Santa Maria del Mar.

Description of the route

This literary tour will let you relive the stories of this exciting novel through its different locations; places that after almost 700 years we will revisit from a different perspective whilst admiring the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the characters and about one of the most emblematic monuments of Barcelona, Santa Maria del Mar, the apogee of Catalan Gothic art.

“From the top of Collserola Mountain, on the old Roman road that connected the northern city Ampurias with the southern Tarragona, Bernat discovered for the first time the freedom and the immensity of the sea! He has never imagined something that has no end.”

14th Century: the city of Barcelona was a prosperous city and had grown towards the shore. The humble new district of fishermen decided to build, with their own money and efforts, the greatest temple that had ever existed: Santa Maria del Mar.

Disfrutamos de la ruta de la Catedral del Mar en BCN. Completa, original y bien estructurada. Se valora positivamente el uso de auriculares para poder seguir perfectamente todas las explicaciones de la guía.

My wife and I have done two of your walking tours with Alex as the guide (Modernism on Friday at 5.30 pm and Gotic today at 9.30 am). I want to write to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed both tours. Alex was an excellent guide. We learnt a huge amount about architecture and about the history of Barcelona on the tour. Alex generously shared his general and local knowledge to give unusual perspectives on things, and we enjoyed his comments and his sense of humour. Thank you very much for wonderful and great value experiences.

I booked this for me an my partner for the day we arrived to get to know the area a little as it was held close to our hotel. Christina was lovely she told the stories really well. I wouldnt say it was scary but we enjoyed it and would recommend.

I liked it very much! Cristina…and the Cathedral of the SeaI liked it very much! Cristina, the guide, knew a lot about the history of the city and of the book of course. By following the steps of the characters of the book you get to learn about history and social life
of ancient Barcelona. Great!

FAQ about regular tours

What is a regularly scheduled tour?

A regularly scheduled tour is a tour that we do with scheduled departures. You buy your ticket for a specific day and time and you will share the tour with other people. We care about the quality of our tours, so you will never find mass groups. If many people sign up, we divide the group into two. In the case of the Slow Gothic Tour, you will never find more than 12 people. In the rest of our regular tours, the maximum is 22 people.

What do you need to do a regularly scheduled tour?

Once the reservation is made, you only have to show up at the meeting point at the indicated time.

We recommend wearing comfortable shoes because the tour is on foot. If it’s summer, maybe a bottle of water or something to refresh you may also come in handy.

How can I customize the experience?

This tour can not be customized because it is a regular tour. If you want to do it exclusively you can contact us and customize it to your liking: choose the day, the time and the number of people or change part of the route and include another stop or monument. We will answer you and we can follow the process.
